CAERNAVON (Caernarfon) TIPSTAFF

A 19th century tipstaff for the town of 'CAERNAVON'.

An Anglicised spelling for the town of Caernarfon. Its use is not known, but it would have been carried by someone in authority and produced to show that he was acting in that authority and on behalf of the Crown.

George IIII period (1820 - 1830). It is most likely that this is a tipstaff of a Parish Constable. Measures 16.5cms.in length

Turned wood with hand painted decoration. On the rear is the coat of arms of Caernarfon. At the base of the handle shaft painted CAERNAVON.
