Charles Williams Church in Wales Primary School, ex-pupil, Elizabeth Ford, 1944 - 1955
During 2025, Charles Williams Church in Wales Primary School's Year 4 pupils collected the memories of previous pupils to celebrate the school's 300th anniversary, supported through a National Lottery Heritage Funded project, Our School, Roots to Heritage. Elizabeth Ford, an ex-pupil, shared her memories with Year 4 pupils during a Community Collecting Day in Spring 2025.
Elizabeth Ford attended the school - the infants school, junior school and senior modern school all on the same site - as a pupil between 1944 and 1955. She remembers the toilets being outside, there being no school hall and railings separating the juniors from the secondary school. In the infants, they used slate and chalk. The Headmistress of the Infants School was Miss Simms and Elizabeth played triangle and cymbals in the school band. Elizabeth remembered the afternoon naps on folding beds, which were placed outside during the summer term.
