David Saunders Collection

This is a collection of material relating to David Saunders, who was warden of Skomer Island 1960-1967. David Saunders contributed to the body of research relating to Skomer and the surrounding islands and environment, with valuable contributions to data on seabird populations and patterns, as well as working towards conservation efforts and visitor management.

This collection features images of Skomer, Skokholm and Grassholm, 3 islands off the coast of Pembrokeshire. These include a variety of seabird and mammal life, as well as illustrations depicting the island and its bird populations. There are also photographs of visitors to the islands and historical images of life on the islands. Examples of written material relating to the islands including journals, leaflets and maps are also included. Something of particular interest may be the ring used to tag and track the migration of birds as part of the Orielton duck decoy, and there are many other unique items to interest researchers and enthusiasts!
