Oak Archaeology Wales CIC

Oak Archaeology Wales CIC is a community-interest organisation established to research,
document, and share evidence of the Roman landscape at Ruperra–Plas Machen and the
wider Rumney Valley in south-east Wales. The material presented here arises from an
ongoing programme of non-invasive archaeological investigation, including desk-based
assessment, field observation, measured survey, landscape analysis, and public engagement.
The project focuses on a large and complex Roman-period landscape incorporating a
suspected amphitheatre, extensive burial grounds, monumental gateways, road networks,
quarry supply zones, and a substantial system of engineered river and water-management
infrastructure along the River Rumney. Collectively, the evidence suggests a carefully
planned military-logistical complex of regional and potentially national significance.
All work has been undertaken with landowner consent and in dialogue with relevant
heritage bodies. The archive brings together reports, mapping, photographs, interpretative
material, and bilingual public-facing content intended to support transparency, future
research, and wider public understanding.
Oak Archaeology Wales CIC is committed to open access, responsible heritage stewardship,
and inclusive engagement. Through partnerships with organisations such as People’s
Collection Wales and educational platforms such as Cwmwl Clyd | Cosy Cloud supporting
schools and communities, the project aims to ensure that this emerging archaeological
landscape is accessible, understandable, and preserved within the national record
