The Alec Jones Unit was built in 1980s. It consisted of 2 wards Trealaw Ward (male) was downstairs and Ynyscynon Ward (female) upstairs. Both wards were for the care of the elderly. When Llwynypia Hospital closed on the opening of Ysbyty Cwm Rhondda at the bottom of valley all the hospital, apart from the Alec Jones Unit was demolished. It seems the new owners had planned to use but it has been empty to date (2025). It has been badly vandalised and is now derelict.
