The pictures show the demolition of Llanfair ward on the ground floor and the Stroke Unit on the first floor of the top block, Llwynypia Hospital in 2011. The hospital closed in 2010 when all patients and services were transferred to the new hospital, Ysbyty Cwm Rhondda, on the valley bottom. The hospital began as accommodation for elderly people from the workhouse before becoming an acute NHS hospital in 1948.
