Audio of interview with British Army Veteran Peter Slater - Royal Artillery

This is an interview recorded on audio with no visual images. The listener is able to hear Mr Peter Slater talking about a nomadic childhood, before sharing his memoirs of life in the Royal Artillery during the 1970's. Peter explains how he came to join the Army and how he found basic training at Woolwich barracks, London. His first posting was to 40 Field regiment, based at Mansbergh barracks in Germany. Following a 1973 tour of duty in Northern Ireland, Peter was posted to the Kings Troop, Royal Horse Artillery, based at Chelsea barracks, London. Listeners are given a rare insight into the life of a Trooper in this prestige mounted troop during the 1970s. Peter's love of horses shines through his account. The conversation comes to a close with Peter offering some information on how he remained working with horses after leaving the Army. Peter was 73 years of age when he gave this account and has suffered from some serious health conditions. However his memory is remarkably intact and despite sharing misgivings about his recall, his account is a worthy and valuable contribution to the nations heritage.
