This plaque was unveiled in December 2024 to commemorate the life of Martha ('Mattie') Hughes Cannon, a native of Llandudno, whose family emigrated to America in the mid-nineteenth century as converts to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints ('Mormons'). She not only became a a physician, but was also America’s first female State Senator, a health reformer, and a suffragist. A statue of her was also installed in 2024 in the Statuary Hall in Washington DC.
