Pontypool Market

The current Market Building opened on 1st December 1894 providing a focal point for the traders and for the people of Pontypool. Whilst mainly used for trading, during its history it has hosted concerts (with audeinces up to 1500 people), boxing matches, polical speeches (including Winston Churchill in 1907) and even rugby training!
The market building was designed by R Williams and DJ Loughor and built in blue pennant stone with Ebbw Vale brick facing at the cost of £22,000. It was opened in December 1894.
