Eddie Baker - Maritime and Aviation Artist
Eddie Baker was born in 1940 and educated at Victoria Secondary Modern school & Watford Technical College. He apprenticed at Oldham's Press in Watford. Inspired by Frank Mason's nautical reproductions in 'Sea Breezes', Eddie developed his own style of maritime painting, specializing in the older style Ocean Liners. Eddie undertook extensive research, in order to ensure his paintings were an accurate depiction of the subject. He would examine Catalogues, Calendars and Brochure's to detail his paintings. A Printer by trade, Eddie went on to become a Design Planner at Eric Bemrose limited, which was a print subsidiary of News International in Liverpool. Later, Eddie moved to Powys in Wales, where he managed a Grocery shop. It was in his studio at Presteigne, that Eddie found the peace and quiet to focus on producing his best work, painting not only the great Ocean Liners but his other interest in Aviation. He painted iconic passenger jets from airlines of the past, such as British European Airways and British Overseas Airways Corporation, as well as aircraft from the Allied air forces of World War Two. Later, Eddie produced paintings of more contemporary aircraft from the British Airway and Emirates airlines fleet. Eddie sadly passed away in the spring of 2025 and is survived by his wife Dianna and their children. Throughout the spring and summer of 2025, a legacy has been created, befitting this wonderful character. Eddie's paintings have been donated to museum's throughout England and Wales. His art is currently on display at the Pembroke Dock Heritage Centre, South Wales Aviation Museum, 94th Bomber group museum (Rougham), Bottisham Airfield museum, Robertsbridge Aviation Society (East Sussex) and the Military Veterans Club offices at Cwmaman memorial hall. Additionally Eddie's aviation paintings support a therapeutic project at Hafan Y Waun care home (Waunfawr).
