Co-ops & Mutual Wales

“All our educational work should be undertaken with the object of preparing people for social change.” Joe Reeves, Secretary, Royal Arsenal Co-operative Society (1918-1938).

C&MW is the representative body (Regional Co‑operative Council) for the wider Co-operative movement in Wales and the Welsh arm of Co‑operativesᵁᴷ. This UK apex body (1869) is for all co-operatives, democratically controlled by its members.

Self-financed, C&MW relies on a small team of active co-operators and gradually re-inventing itself as a mutual support network for individual co-operative activists and co-operatives.

We aim to be good ‘sign-posters’ & interconnectors between sectors, co-ops, co-operators & the public; and we reach out internationally, including Japan, Italy & the Philippines.

From 2016, we have supported mutual learning to foster innovation. We run regular events, the latest being the 250th anniversary of Robert Owen. Our current focus is on promoting a National Robert Owen Day.
