' ... Carmarthen shopkeeper. After I had been at Topsail aforesaid about six or seven days and had slept with Thomas Phillips two or three nights at Topsail he Thomas Phillips told me one night in Bed that he would give me a sovereign 'if I would go and put fire to a certain house and two ricks of hay situate[d] on the farm of Cynheidre in the said parish of Llanelly in the said County of Carmarthen the property of the said John Bonnell of Velinvole aforesaid in the parish of Llanelly aforesaid and in the County aforesaid - Thomas Phillips said he would give me the sovereign on the following morning after the house and two ricks aforesaid would be set fire to. I did not say I would set fire to them nor did I say I would not do so - He made the offer to me on more than one night - I am sure he made several offers to me on four different nights after he made the first offer to me.
