A brief A Welsh History of Conway Washington.Conway is a small town about 50 miles North of Seattle, on the southern bank of the Skagit River.
It was settled by Thomas P. Jones born in Conwy, Wales and Charles Villeneuve in 1873. The town was platted and named Conway in 1891 by Thomas Jones . In 1884, Thomas bought one hundred and forty one and 35/100 acres of adjacent land from Richard Holyoake and in 1887 he purchased 120 acres with rights for agricultural, mining, manufacturing and other purposes in conjunction with water rights. Most of the records are held in the Skagit Valley Genealogical Society, Washington ( P>O> BOX 715, Conway, WA 982338, USA). On 21 May of 1997, The Maelgwn Choir from Conwy, Wales visited Conway as part of their North American Tour. For that visit, Jackie Cedarholm of the Puget Sound Welsh Association researched and compiled the history of Conway, WA, and presented it to the choir in the town . The materials here are from that compilation. Permission was given by the Skagit Valley Genealogical Society to Jackie Cedarholm for use of these materials and also from the Skagit Valley Herald and Skagit Valley Argus. Other materials in the historycompilation are not presented here since they did not copy and scan well.
