Trecco Bay Caravan Park, Porthcawl, is now the UK’s largest caravan park. The rapid growth of caravanning and camping began in the 1950s and 60s as an alternative to the traditional boarding house or hotel. Trecco Bay was at its height in the late 1950s, with caravans, tents, toilet blocks and other facilities nestling in the dunes and spilling out onto the beach at the very limit of the high tide mark.
