The ROBERT EGGLETON was a steel-hulled steamship built by Short Brothers, Sunderland, in 1890. It was carrying a cargo of coal from Glasgow to Leghorn when it was torpedoed and sunk by German submarine U-91 with the loss of one crew member on 28 December 1917.

The uboat was launched on 14 April 1917 and carried out 8 patrols under the command of Kptlt. Alfred von Glasenapp. It sank a total of 37 ships before it was surrendered to France in 1918.
