Bwlch y Ddaufaen

Disgrifiadau

Here we see part of the old Roman road between their fort at Canovium (Caerhun) in the Conwy valley, near the Tal-y-Cafn crossing and Segontium (Caernarfon). The road passes above the village of Rowen and on through the mountain pass of Bwlch-y-Ddaufaen (meaning the Pass of the Two Stones). On the left we see the start of Y Drum mountain with its dry stone wall. You can see the two stone age monoliths from which the pass derives its name. In more recent times, this route was used by cattle drovers from Anglesey on their way to the markets of England until the arrival of the train brought droving to a an uneconomical halt during Victorian times.
