Pages of the 1927 Welsh in Education and Life Repo

Disgrifiadau

This is page 83 of the printed report Welsh in Education and Life, published by the Department Committee appointed by the President of the Board of Education to inquire into the position of the Welsh Language in 1927. This page discusses statistics from the 1921 Census Return and comments that the percentage of Welsh-speakers varies considerably between counties. Over the past censuses, between 1891 and 1911 the total number of Welsh-speakers increased, but dropped between 1911 and 1921. The death of monoglot Welsh speakers, increased travel opportunities and the spread of education all are believed to account for the decline in numbers.
