Firefly, horse drawn fire engine in Broad Street, Hay on Wye

Disgrifiadau

A new steam powered fire engine manufactured by Shand Mason was bought in 1901 and named "Firefly", a model of which is in Y Gaer museum collection. It was kept in the newly built fire station on Bell Bank, Hay. Horses were used to pull the engine at Hay until 1925 when a second-hand tractor was purchased. The "Firefly" steam engine was finally sold to   Whitney on Wye for pumping water at the beginning of WW2 and was eventually scrapped for the war effort.
