Kidwelly RFC – A Brief History

Origins (1880s)
Kidwelly Rugby Football Club was established in the early 1880s, with rugby first played in the town around that time. Like many early Welsh clubs, the exact founding year isn’t precisely documented, but it’s generally accepted that the club dates back to roughly 1884.

Location and Identity
The club represents the market town of Kidwelly in Carmarthenshire, South Wales, and is nicknamed the Black & Ambers because of its traditional team colours.

Ground – Parc Stephens
Kidwelly RFC plays its home matches at Parc Stephens, a ground that also hosts other local sports teams including football, cricket, and bowls.

Welsh Rugby Union and League Rugby
Kidwelly RFC is a member of the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) and competes in the WRU Division One West, part of the national league structure. As with many community clubs, its league status can fluctuate with each season.

Notable Success
The club enjoyed a standout competitive season when they were crowned WRU Division One West champions, narrowly beating Aberystwyth 27–26 to secure the title—a proud moment in their modern history.
