St Mary's Church, Kidwelly Cemetery Ledger Master Edition: A Twenty-First Century Parish Burial Register

Disgrifiadau

This is the St Mary's Cemetery Ledger Master Edition a 196-page integrated burial record for St Mary's Churchyard, Kidwelly (Cydweli), Carmarthenshire, produced by combining three independent sources for the first time: the handwritten churchyard survey folder held at the church, the FindAGrave digital memorial database (Cemetery ID 2702334), and GPS coordinates recorded in the field for every plot square in the churchyard grid.

The work began with a scanned copy of the handwritten vestry ledger photographed at the church some years ago. Working with AI research tools, those scanned pages were transcribed, cross-referenced against 856 individual FindAGrave memorial records, and connected to precise GPS coordinates for each of the 40 plot squares in the A1–H5 grid. The result is a document that connects the physical burial stone to the handwritten archive, the GPS location, the printed register, and the live digital memorial all five layers integrated in a single printed volume.

The ledger contains three sections. The Parish Burial Register is organised by plot square with GPS coordinates and date era notes explaining the reliability of records from Pre-1538 through to the present day. The Integrated Register cross-references the handwritten survey against all 856 FindAGrave records, identifying 239 memorials matched to their grid position and 617 flagged for further field verification. The FindAGrave Individual Ledger carries one entry per person, alphabetical by surname, each with a personal QR code linking directly to their individual memorial page on FindAGrave. The appendix reproduces all twenty pages of the original scanned survey folder as primary source evidence.

This is believed to be the first document of its kind produced for a Welsh parish church - a printed register where every individual burial carries a live digital link, a GPS location, and a record era note connecting the stone in the ground to the global research community.
