In these photographs, we glimpse the deep roots of cricket in Kidwelly — a tradition woven into the town’s life for well over a century.
Press reports confirm that Kidwelly Town Cricket Club was already fielding a side by 1865, evidence that organised cricket flourished here in the 19th century. Long before formal league structures came into being, the club stood proudly alongside other local sporting organisations, forming an important part of Kidwelly’s social fabric.
League status was eventually gained in 1949, marking a new chapter in the club’s development. Earlier press references from the mid-1940s record matches being played at Parc Stephens, showing that by 1946 cricket had firmly established its home there.
Today, the story continues at Parc Stephens — the town’s principal sports ground and a longstanding hub of community activity. Over the years it has hosted cricket, rugby, football, and many other events, serving as a focal point for generations of local sport. These images stand as a testament to that enduring legacy.
