26 v 12

My dear Gordon,
I am here writing the first & worse book on
Swinburne & very busy but have not forgotten the
mean letter I wrote to you before I had discovered
what fine things you had put into Babel for example
& what a good thing that Thrash was that destroyed
your Diction so. But writing books on Hearn
Pater & Swinburne has ruined me for anything but
faultfinding. So far then, done nothing else with
Swinburne, only I still find 'In an
Orchard' - [illegible] & 'Ballad of Life' lovely. Here the train begins to move so
I ask only may I send de la Mares' book to
share. I love you & hope this May has
done you good. Tell us.
Yours ever
Edward Thomas
