Turnpike and Pre‑Turnpike Roads of Wales: Digital Mapping from the Dyfed Archaeological Trust Records

Disgrifiadau

This file accompanies an ongoing digital mapping project based on the Turnpike and Pre‑Turnpike Roads: Medieval and Early Post‑Medieval Sites Scheduling Enhancement Project compiled by the Dyfed Archaeological Trust (2014). The purpose of this work is to translate the original OS grid references into precise GPS and What3Words coordinates, creating a modern, accessible, and field‑ready record of Wales’s historic transport network.

Each mapped entry has been visually verified against contemporary satellite imagery to ensure accuracy. By presenting this material in an interactive digital format, the project makes the historic road infrastructure of Wales easier to explore, study, and understand. This approach supports researchers, heritage volunteers, educators, and members of the public by transforming static archival data into a living, navigable resource.

This submission forms part of a wider initiative to preserve and reanimate Wales’s transport heritage for future generations.
