Corporal Neil Davies RAFP at RAF Wattisham 1986

Disgrifiadau

RAF Police NCO Neil Davies on mobile patrol in one of the Vauxhall Chevette RAFP vehicles at RAF Wattisham circa 1986/7. These black police patrol cars were a familiar site at RAF stations in the 1980's. The high positioned blue light was an important warning signal to air traffic controllers and aircraft pilots. The police vehicles were used to respond to incidents on 'taxi ways' and 'aircraft pans' and had to activate the flashing blue light when doing so. An example being to ensure the 'crash gates' for fire tenders were clear and open during a live aircraft emergency. The car in this photograph is positioned outside a HAS (Hardened aircraft shelter) on a restricted access area. Inside would be an F4 Phantom fighter interceptor from 56 or 74 squadron.
