The small Copper butterfly, Lycaena phlaeas can be seen throughout the British Isles, except northern Scotland. they have two or three broods a year, April-June, July- August and September - October. The eggs are laid singly on the underside of leaves of the Sorrel plant and hatch in one to two weeks. The caterpillars feed on Thistles, Ragwort and Sheep's Sorrel.
