The Boar's Head Pub, Ewloe - the "R & B Golf Society" , recalled by Terry Breen

Disgrifiadau

In this clip local resident and retired business executive, Terry Breen describes how he came to live in Hawarden (Flintshire) and was introduced to the after-work conviviality to be found at Ewloe's popular one-time turnpike hostelry, "The Boar's Head". Terry tells how landlord, Tony Aldridge, together with pub "regular" and fellow amateur golf enthusiast, Cliff Williams, formed a new golfing group dedicated to the needs of its customers. Allegedly, with a nod to the game's founding institution -and to acknowledge the pub's association with Cliff's Deeside based enterprise, the pair named their venture, "The Remsdaq & Boar's Head Golf Society". The "R & B" was an instant success! The mix of competitive but relaxed enthusiasm for the game together with a charitable objective of funding guide-dogs for the blind attracted many locals. Over years of sporting fellowship, during which thousands of pounds were raised for charity, the Boar's Head pub and its associated society earned an enviable reputation as a force for good within the Hawarden/Ewloe community.  This interview was filmed 16 July 2024. It is part of a volunteer Oral-History and Record, project, intended for deposit with Wales National Archives, Aberystwyth. Produced and published by John Butler 2024 Further Information:https://www.remsdaq.comhttps://www.guidedogs.org.ukemail: [email protected] All Rights Reserved ©
