12th century Pot Sherd found at Nevern Castle

Disgrifiadau

This fragment is one of several found at Nevern Castle during the series of archaeological digs 2008-2018 led by Dr Chris Caple of Durham University.
The stylised flower decoration indicates their origin in Devon, in lands also held by the Norman family that built Nevern Castle.
The majority of the fragments of glazed pottery were found near the round tower on the castle motte, suggesting that it was used as domestic quarters by the lord.
The Welsh appear not to have used pottery prior to the Norman invasion, preferring wooden and metal cookware.
