In October 1992 hoof prints and sightings of a 'mystery beast' were reported to the Warden. The following spring a strange barking was heard at night. The mystery was only solved on 9th March 1993 when a dead muntjac deer was discovered at the foot of the ive-clad cliff at North Haven, having fallen to its death.
The body was buried in the North Haven vegetable plot. and exhumed a decade later when the plot was regenerated. The deer's origin is totally unknown.
