Egging on the cliffs of Skomer Island, c.1880s
Disgrifiadau
Images of Vaughan Davies (with hat and white bers) and another climber using a long pole fitted with a net to collect bird eggs on the cliffs around Skomer.
The collection of eggs may have been for personal consumption or perhaps for people in Marloes, where seabird egges were regarded as a delicacy. Another possibility is that the eggs were obtained to supply the 'oology' market of Victorian egg-collectors.
