Cwmcelyn is a small community situated between Nantyglo and Abertillery in the former coal-mining valley of the river Ebbw Fach.
Cwmcelyn Pond is an artificial feature originally used for water storage, now converted into an attractive leisure amenity, offering fishing, picnic areas, and quiet walks.

I approached Cwmcelyn from the main valley road by ascending this hill.

My first sight of the pond, against the backdrop of the 575 metre (1850 foot) Cefn Coch (Red Ridge) and Mynydd James (James Mountain).

I explored the pond by following this footpath.

The trail wandered through shady woodland.

From the footpath I enjoyed frequent glimpses of distant valley scenery between the trees, including (above right) the view west across the valley towards the 550-metre (1800-foot) Mynydd Carn-y-cefn.
