The University College buildings on the promenade were originally designed for use as a hotel, but were later extended in a mix of architectural styles. In the distance on the right are outlined the remains of Aberystwyth Castle.

Victorian hotels overlook the north end of the promenade, at the foot of Constitution Hill.
