Fishermen Robbed.

SIXTY-EIGHT HOURS WITHOUT FOOD.

The Lowestoft fishing smack Zircon was stopped by a German submarine on February 13th when 46 miles from the nearest land. The skipper and crew, composed of four men, took to their boat, and were ordered on board the submarine. The skipper and two men were detained, while the other two were ordered to row a German sailor to the smack with bombs. The German sailor placed the bombs, looted the smack of all provisions, and returned to the submarine, where the provisions were taken on board. The skipper and his crew were then ordered into their boat without food, and told to pull away. They were picked up 68 hours later by a pilot boat, having been without food or water the whole time and exposed to the bitter cold in an open boat during heavy weather.

This constitutes one of the worst deliberate cases of submarine brutality at present on record. That the naval representatives of a European Power should stoop to robbing unarmed fishermen is without parallel in modern history.
