The above photo (fish in right hand) is of my Great-Great-Uncle, John 'George' Morgan of Cilgerran, West Wales He was both a quarryman and a coracle man on the River Teifi. He holds the record of a 45lb salmon caught by coracle net in 1923/24; whilst the river was in full flood.....During the recession of the1930's, he walked - in wooden clogs - from West Wales to Aberdare, South Wales and spent just one day underground as a miner.... "Damn this" he said, and promptly walked back to west Wales. The salmon on the ground would be around 30 lbs in weight so you can imagine what a 45 pounder looked like!
