Since the 1970s, volunteers have been an essential part of the Skomer Island team, contributing to a variety of tasks and activities including

- Wildlife Monitoring: surveys are carried out of our breeding birds (Spring), seabirds (June), and seals (August onwards)

- Public Engagement: helping to welcome visitors onto the island, providing support and information to the public

- Maintenance Skills: contributing to essential maintenance work such as building, plumbing and carpentry

- Personal Projects: research into a species or area of interest outside of the regular volunteer responsibilities
